    The United States and the former Soviet Union possess over 10,000 nuclear
    weapons  more than enough to destroy the entire world many times.  Since 1945
    over 2000 nuclear bomb tests have been conducted - an average of 33 per year
    That means an average of 1 every 11 days.
    Depending on which account you go by there are 7 to 9 nations which now possess
    nuclear weapons. One account lists 23 other nations as possessing weapons of
    mass destruction that are not nuclear. In addition the United States deploys its
    nuclear weapons in six other nations: Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands,
    and Turkey.  In addition to 7 (most conservative estimate) there are 25 - 30 other
    nations which have weapons of mass destruction stored in their nation or at their
    disposal.

    One fact most often overlooked in writings about nuclear weapons is that it is a
    lucrative, very profitable industry. While (mostly western) nations officially speak
    against nuclear weapons proliferation, they ignore the effort of industry and others
    to help disperse the technology to other nations.  That knowledge can easily be
    transferred to terrorists and terrorist groups.
