ARE WE DOOMED?
IS THE SUN ABOUT TO SET ON HUMAN
    BEINGS???
Sadako, a young child who was a survivor of the bombing developed leukemia several
years later.  She believed in a legend that if a sick person folded 1000 paper cranes his or
her wish would be granted and (s)he would be cured of the illness.  Sadako worked very
hard to fold 1000 cranes so she would be cured.

Within a few months she died and had only been able to fold 644 paper cranes. Her
classmates were deeply troubled by her death and they folded the remaining 356 paper
cranes.  They also collected money to build a marvelous shrine to her and all children who
are victims of the nuclear bombing. Their effort soon spread to other schools in Japan and
soon to schools around the world. Today paper cranes come to Hiroshima from all over
the world from people who want to work for an end to war and for peace.

ONE LESSON OF SADAKO'S DEATH IS RADIATION HAS ITS EFFECTS LONG AFTER IT IS RECEIVED

BESIDES BUILDING PAPER CRANES THERE ARE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO BRING PEACE IN THE ORLD

EDUCATE YOURSELF AND YOUR COMMUNITY ABOUT DANGERS OF NUCLEAR WAR AND RADIATION

    EDUCATE PUBLIC OFFICIALS

GET LOCAL GOVERNING BODIES TO PASS RESOLUTIONS FOR A NUCLEAR FREE WORLD

GET STATE LEGISLATURES TO PASS SAME RESOLUTIONS

MOST OF THE NATIONS AND REGIONS IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE HAVE DECLARED THEIR
NATION OR CONTINENT TO BE NUCLEAR FREE. WE NEED TO WORK ON THE NATIONS OF THE
NORTHERN HEMISPHERE TO DECLARE OUR REGIONS TO BE NUCLEAR FREE.

WE ALSO NEED TO WORK ON BEING AT PEACE IN OUR OWN LIVES

    BEGIN LIVING IN PEACE
    SETTLE DISPUTES WITHOUT VIOLENCE
    CONSERVE ENERGY
PRAY FOR PEACE IN OUR OWN HEARTS AND PEACE IN THE WORLD
HOST THE HIROSHIMA PEACE CULTURE FOUNDATION IN YOUR AREA
